Ready For Second Atlantis In Dubai?

Contract is for the development of a three–tower residential, retail and beach club development on the Palm Jumeirah.

Dubai: The Palm Jumeirah, an iconic palm-shaped luxury reclamation project in Dubai, is set to get another landmark -- and its second Atlantis property.

Nakheel, the island's master developer, has confirmed that the contract for the $1.4bn Royal Atlantis Resort and Residences has been award on the signature island.

The project -- a three–tower residential, retail and beach club development -- is expected to be completed in just about 24 months.

The legendary Atlantis The Palm, which has a massive aquarium with sharks and tens of thousands of marine animals, is one of the most sought-after destinations in Dubai by tourists and local residents alike.

Rising next to it will be the new Royal Atlantis.

South Korea's Ssangyong Engineering & Construction has confirmed that it has secured the contract to build the Royal Atlantis Resort and Residences while the Six Construct, a Besix subsidiary, will be its engineering partner.

Joon Hun Kim, Ssangyong’s Middle East managing director, described the Royal Atlantis as “another landmark for Dubai. In August, Six Construct had announced that it would bid on the $1.4bn project.

Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF), the new Royal Atlantis Resort and Residences with have nearly 800 guest rooms, with more than 230 serviced apartments on 46 storeys.

Like Atlantis, The Palm, Royal Atlantis will be operated by Kerzner International.

On Tuesday, Nakheel confirmed that it has awarded a construction contract worth almost Dh1.4 billion to Ssangyong Engineering & Construction’s Dubai branch and the China State Construction Engineering Corporation (Middle East).

The contract is for the development of a new development, according to a company statement.

Work is expected to begin within the next two months, and the new resort will be ready by 2018, the statement said.
