Following in the footsteps of Jumeirah Group's Wild Wadi and the Atlantis, The Palm's Aquaventure, Dubai is set for another waterpark on Deira Islands, developer Nakheel said on Sunday.

The aquatic-focused theme park is part of the updated masterplan for the RIU Palace Peninsula Resort, which is being developed by Dubai government developer Nakheel and Spanish hotelier RIU Hotels and Resorts.

The 900 million dirham ($245 million) resort on the manmade Deira Islands development will be the first all-inclusive 4-star hotel concept in Dubai will include 800 rooms.

Set on a 3.4 million square foot plot at Deira Islands, the waterpark will make up a tenth of the available space. No further details of the park have been announced, which was not included in the original masterplan unveiled in May last year.

Infrastructure and coastal works is currently underway at Deira Islands, which will add 40 km, including 21 km of beachfront, to Dubai's coastline. Besides the resort and waterpark, other attractions on the islands will include the Deira Mall and Deira Islands Night Souk.

Construction is likely to start on RIU Palace Peninsula Resort by the end of this year, with an open date set for the third quarter of 2019.
